Platform
A platform connects XMachines to one environment or one protocol. An RFC defines each platform, and a set of packages implements it.
Play is the only platform with published packages. A “Planned” badge marks a platform that has an RFC, and no package yet.
Platforms
Frontend applications where a state machine owns the state, the route, and the view
BrowserPlanned
Adapters for the browser APIs, such as the DOM, WebSocket, and Web Workers, over Web Streams
NodePlanned
Adapters between Node streams and Web Streams, and for the Node process
The following platforms have an RFC only. They have no page on this site yet.
- REST — an HTTP projection of machines and runs. See the REST RFC.
- MCP — the Model Context Protocol, for AI agents. See the MCP RFC.
- CLI — command-line tools. See the CLI RFC.
Principles
Every platform obeys these principles:
- A platform is optional. Install the packages of a platform only when you need that environment.
- The logic does not depend on the platform. The same state machine runs with each platform.
- A platform does not change how a machine runs. It connects the machine to an environment, and it adds no execution rules.
