Platform

A platform connects XMachines to one environment or one protocol. An RFC defines each platform, and a set of packages implements it.

Play is the only platform with published packages. A “Planned” badge marks a platform that has an RFC, and no package yet.

Platforms

  • Play

Frontend applications where a state machine owns the state, the route, and the view

  • BrowserPlanned

Adapters for the browser APIs, such as the DOM, WebSocket, and Web Workers, over Web Streams

  • NodePlanned

Adapters between Node streams and Web Streams, and for the Node process

The following platforms have an RFC only. They have no page on this site yet.

  • REST — an HTTP projection of machines and runs. See the REST RFC.
  • MCP — the Model Context Protocol, for AI agents. See the MCP RFC.
  • CLI — command-line tools. See the CLI RFC.

Principles

Every platform obeys these principles:

  1. A platform is optional. Install the packages of a platform only when you need that environment.
  2. The logic does not depend on the platform. The same state machine runs with each platform.
  3. A platform does not change how a machine runs. It connects the machine to an environment, and it adds no execution rules.
